Criteria for selecting literacy committees

Introduction

In addition to general criteria listed in Criteria for selecting literacy personnel, there are specific criteria that may be considered for selecting members of literacy committees. The list is intended to provide ideas rather than be exhaustive. All criteria should reflect local needs, resources, cultures, and decisions.

Criteria

Here are some criteria for literacy committee members. Select members who meet the following:

  • Are interested in maintaining the traditional language and culture
  • Are active in or knowledgeable about major community concerns and events
  • Are respected for fairness and open-mindedness
  • Have demonstrated good decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Have a vision for the use of literacy to promote development in the community
