Criteria for selecting supervisors

 

Introduction
 

In addition to general criteria listed in Criteria for selecting literacy personnel, there are specific criteria that may be considered for selecting literacy supervisors. The list is intended to provide ideas, rather than be exhaustive. All criteria should reflect local needs, resources, cultures, and decisions.

Criteria
 

Here are some criteria for supervisors. Select supervisors who meet the following:

 
  • Are interested in maintaining the traditional language and culture
  • Are interested in promoting development of the community
  • Demonstrate ability and tactfulness as trainers and evaluators
  • Speak, read, and write the indigenous language fluently and accurately
  • Have a working knowledge of the appropriate languages adequate to fill out supervisor forms and follow written instructions
  • Have a minimum education as specified by the committee
  • Have assisted in teacher training
  • Have completed a teacher training course
  • Have experience in teaching vernacular literacy
  • Are recognized as good teachers by both teachers and students
  • Show good judgment in using money and materials
