Criteria for selecting trainers

 

Introduction
 

Trainers play a critical role in any training program, therefore they must be chosen carefully. Trainers in literacy programs may be responsible for one or more of the following types of training:

 
  • Staff and leadership development
  • Teacher training
  • Training materials writers and developers
 

In addition to general criteria listed in Criteria for selecting literacy personnel, there are specific criteria that may be considered for selecting literacy trainers. The list is intended to provide ideas, rather than be exhaustive. All criteria should reflect local needs, resources, cultures, and decisions.

Critiera
 

Here are some criteria for trainers. Select trainers who meet the following:

 
  • Are knowledgeable and experienced in subjects and responsibilities for which training will be designed
  • Are good networkers and resource developers
  • Are willing to learn from subordinates and try new techniques and approaches
  • Have demonstrated excellent teaching skills
  • Have excellent writing and communications skills
  • Work well with persons having a wide variety of living experiences, learning styles, and education
