Introduction
	One of the best ways to communicate what reading and writing are all about is by demonstrating, or modeling, the use of printed materials. This is especially effective when the model explains what he or she is doing and why.

Objectives
	Here are some objectives of modeling reading and writing:
	To expose people to reading and writing To encourage people to try to read and write To model using printed materials To help them understand the nature of reading and writing To help them understand the functions and uses of print

Things to do
	Here are some things to do when you model reading and writing:
	Read to people. Talk about reading. Write down things people say. Write letters to and for people.
