Networking with national governments

 

Introduction
 

The government in any country is a large bureaucracy. To network effectively, you must develop a government networking strategy and focus on the appropriate people and departments.

Objectives
 

Here are some objectives of networking with national governments:

 
  • To ensure a favorable overall climate in which literacy work may be pursued
  • To develop positive and cooperative relationships with departments which are potential users of local language literacy
Guidelines
 

Here are some guidelines to follow when you network with national governments:

 
  • To ensure the favorable working climate mentioned above, network with

    • authorities who grant permissions for research, travel, and visas, and
    • departments who establish or influence language and educational policy.
  • To develop relationships with potential users of local language literacy, network with departments in charge of public concerns such as

    • health care
    • women's affairs
    • social affairs
    • adult education
    • agriculture
    • community and rural development
    • the environment
    • forestry, and
    • other related areas.
