SIL legislative statements on literacy

by Stephen L. Walter

Introduction

Modules in this group are intended to give members of SIL access to the key pieces of SIL legislation on the subject of literacy.

Not every piece of legislation is included that mentions literacy in an incidental way . The included material, however, represents the most important items and gives a reasonably current “snapshot” of formal SIL statements on literacy.

Discussion

Many of the legislative statements about literacy are quite general. This is partly the nature of the legislative process in any organization and partly a reflection of the nature of SIL as an organization. As a highly decentralized organization, individual SIL branches and field entities are given a lot of prerogative to develop strategies and statements of goals specific to their working context.

In this module group
