Summary
 

Part 1 states that participation of people in literacy programs may be influenced by the following factors:

 
  • Sociopolitical structures
  • Attitude toward the use of languages
  • Whether the program belongs to a church, to the society, or to someone from the outside
  • Management (selection of people to train and the language committee)
  • Historical factors, including previous programs
 

Part 2 applies the Part 1 principles to the Abidji project. Defines the problem, presents background information and hypotheses, and offers strategies for solution.
