Summary

Benefits of bilingual education, according to the local people are

  • more effective learning
  • improved self-respect and sense of self-worth, and
  • gradual exposure to the majority culture.

While there are limiting factors, caution and forethought by administrators and educators initiating such programs can provide long-range benefits with minimal disturbance to the minority group. When compared to the alternatives, bilingual education and acculturation has produced more positive results than negative results.
