Part 2 deals with whole language in theory and practice. Sees teachers as "reclaiming their professional autonomy" and sees children as competent. Emphasizes productive activity, problem posing and analysis, and critical thinking, as opposed to skills practice and standardized testing.

 

Questions how to educate people regarding social justice issues. States that "whole language opposes social stratification and promotes an egalitarian social order" (page 164).
