Summary
 

Is a three-level preliminary evaluation of the Enga Tok Ples preschool program (ETPS) developed for the Enga Yako Lasamans development project in Papua New Guinea by Mary Stringer. Lists the following levels of evaluation:

 
  • Capacity to meet the cognitive and affective needs of those learning to read and write for the first time
  • Ability to solve some of the educational, cultural, and social problems found in many communities where literacy programs are functioning
  • Capacity to cope with the economic and political conditions that prevail in most countries where illiteracy is widespread
 

Cautions that program is new, but comments very favorably on the benefits of this method of teaching.
