Abstract

Favors bilingual education. Discusses sociological and cultural benefits of bilingual education for majority groups and minority groups. Also discusses benefits for

  • education
  • language teachers, and
  • language teaching.

Part 2 focuses on international findings in research regarding 1,200 bilingual secondary school programs.

Evaluation

Gives good arguments in favor of bilingual education as an enrichment to the entire community, not just as compensation for poor minorities. Data is somewhat outdated (1976), but gives interesting sketches about bilingual education in several different countries.
