Is a multilevel ethnography of a 10-year-old maintenance program. Held bilingual education program for Chinese in a public school in the heart of a Chinatown community in California. Provides insight into how a bilingual-education program is actually initiated, implemented, and perceived in a Chinese community. Also provides insight into the life and aspirations of Chinatown Chinese-Americans. Provides an illustrative model for how to design, carry out, and report a multilevel ethnography.
