Describes the needs and problems of Aguaruna adults that gave rise to their adult education program (1969--1974). Describes how the new program (curriculum and organization) was designed to do the following:

 
  • To educate adults over three years
  • To provide sufficient instruction in reading, writing, and arithmetic
  • To provide sufficient instruction in Spanish and hygiene
  • To enable adults to function independently
  • To enable adults to relate to people outside their own community and culture
  • To give specific suggestions for materials to include in any future program
 

Evaluation
 

Provides invaluable ideas and suggestions from broad personal experiences as an educator among both adults and children of various cultures.
