Langlands 1985

Reference

Langlands, William H. 1985. "Some ways to encourage advanced students to write." Notes on Literacy.

Summary 1

Is a sort of "homemade" application of the process writing approach to Australian aborigines. Was written to encourage literacy specialists in the area to promote the writing process. Also includes suggestions of topics that might motivate aboriginal groups.

Summary 2

Gives an overview of SIL's work with the Australian aborigines and what happened. Gives an early history of contact with Caucasian people and some of the problems encountered. Also gives detailed outline of SIL programs and notes what work has been accomplished. Frankly states the problems involved but also tries to give positive solutions and ideas.

Evaluation

Is a good overview article about a difficult situation. Motivation is not the theme but is discussed throughout the article.
