McGee-Cooper 1994

Reference

McGee-Cooper, Ann. 1994.Time management for unmanageable people. New York: Bantam. xvi, 251 pages. 0553370715 (1994 edition). Interest level: general.

Summary

Describes burnout and those types of people who are primary candidates for burnout. Talks about what people can do to prevent personal as well as trainee burnout. Also describes the link between brain dominance and personal time management.

Left and right hemispheres of brain function in opposition to the other. Children need to learn to be whole-brained, rather than to concentrate only on the left brain side. Depending on which side of the brain dominates, people learn in different ways and manage their time differently.

Evaluation

Is an easy and clear description that emphasizes the importance of having fun and using the right side of your brain. Gives many funny illustrations. What is fun and relaxing for one person may be work for another.

Is useful for literacy work with preliterate people. You can learn to understand and to appreciate those who use the other side of their brain to learn. You can encourage them in their personal growth.
