Summary
 

Deals with the multilingual situation in India. Describes the imposition of English by British colonialism and the social ramifications for "tribal education" and "tribal languages." Has promother tongue viewpoint. Discusses challenges of adult education, planning of scripts, and education of minority children with a view to preserve culture and diversity. Calls for a recognition of the worth and validity of mother tongue languages.

Evaluation
 

Was recommended by an SIL student as it includes some "interesting historical information." Is not easy to read--does not flow smoothly. Is written in an East Indian style of English. Brings up many challenges but not many solutions.
