Summary
 

A 13-page animal book (4½. inches by 6½ inches) is one piece of literature most in demand among the Mazatecs of Huautla de Jiminez, Oaxaca, Mexico. Contains only a list of Mazatec animal names in the left column with their Spanish equivalent in the right column. Has about 200 names including insects (fleas), bigger animals (skunks), and more rare, wild animals (wildcats). All ages buy the book. Most people who buy it study it by themselves or with their friends until they can read it fluently.
