| Summary | |
|
Primary unit used for literacy instruction in a person's mother tongue in Papua New Guinea is the syllable. Compiled various eclectic methods to teach adults and children where building syllables into words and words into sentences are the most important skills to master. Recent studies of traditional learning patterns (Stringer 1983; Stringer 1985a) indicate that more effective learning may take place if instruction occurs in certain contexts. Needs to be as much as possible where learning takes place in the student's culture. | |
