Explains development of the personal Multistrategy method. Draws from both skills-oriented reading theories and cognitive process-based reading theories. Separates reading instruction into learning elements below the word level (Workbook track) and learning higher-level cognitive processes of reading (Story track). Method fits well into the sociocultural context of Papua New Guinea, meeting needs of both field-dependent and field-independent students.
