What are postprimer materials?

Postprimer materials are literacy materials designed to teach comprehension and critical reading skills to semiliterate readers who have completed a basic reading instruction program.

Postprimer materials may be

• the last section of a primer
• one or many separate books
• a series of graded materials

Here are some other functions of postprimer materials:

• To keep new readers reading
• To promote reading fluency and independence

Here are some examples of postprimer materials:

• A series of graded reading books
• Basic math books
• Language arts or grammar materials
• Any reading materials suitable to the reader's level
