What is a gutter margin?

A gutter margin is the white space formed by the adjoining inside margins of two facing pages in a book, or the space between columns on a page.

The location of the gutter margin on a page depends on how the book is bound.

Side bound

The left margin on odd numbered pages, and the right margin on even numbered pages.

Center bound

The middle of the page where it is folded.
