What is untaught residue?

Definition

Untaught residue is material which has not previously been taught but is used in a primer lesson anyway to make the lesson more effective.

Discussion

Some approaches to primer or lesson construction require that material is included in a given lesson or primer page that has previously been taught.

When material is used (syllables, word, or phrases) that has not been taught but must be included to make the lesson effective, this material is untaught residue.
