What is phonemic writing?

Phonemic writing is a system of writing in which words are spelled in a consistent manner rather than how they sound.

Examples
 

Using phonemic writing,

 
  • the English word kissed would be spelled kist, and
  • the English word sounds would be spelled soundz.
