Choosing a font

 

Introduction
 

There are two basic types of fonts for orthographies based on Roman script:

 
Guidelines
 

Here are some guidelines to follow when you choose a font:

 
  • Use sanserif fonts for beginning readers. Sanserif fonts look more similar to the way beginning readers are learning to write.

  • Use serif fonts for advanced readers. Serif fonts can help guide the reader's eyes and speed up reading.

  • In choosing a font for beginning readers, check to see how the letters a and g are formed.

    Tip:

    Often they are different from their hand-printed counterparts. You should anticipate the confusion this might cause and do what you can to minimize it.
