Drying printed fabric

Introduction

Fabric that has been freshly printed with a silk-screen printer must be handled and dried carefully to preserve the design.

See:

How to print on fabric with a silk-screen printer or T-shirt printing demonstration for all the steps involved in printing on fabric.

Guidelines

Here are some guidelines to follow to dry freshly printed fabric:

  • Hang the fabric on a line, spread it on bushes, or spread it on the ground.
  • Make sure it will not blow away.
  • Leave it in the sun for about one hour, if possible. This "cures" the ink and prevents it from smearing and from washing out later.
  • Be sure the ink is completely dry and set before moving the fabric.
