Managing a literacy program

by Stephen L. Walter

Introduction

Managing a literacy program is similar to managing any kind of program, but there are aspects that require some technical expertise in literacy.

The management of large, more formal programs needs to be more rigorous than that of smaller, less formal programs.

Management in a cross-cultural context is complex and delicate. Traditional managment techniques need to be tempered by the realities of working in a cross-cultural environment.

Prerequisite

Here is a prerequisite for managing a literacy program:

Things to do
Here are the things to do when you manage a literacy program:

  • Make a detailed operational plan from the program design.
  • Get information on financial management.
  • Solve personnel problems.
  • Manage the information flow.
  • Write the needed reports.
  • Solve any general problems.
  • Make the needed program adjustments.

Note:

Supporting information for these steps will be provided in future versions of the Literacy bookshelf.
