Putting together a book

Putting a book together involves many decisions and tasks besides writing the content of the book. These must be carefully planned in advance.

Design

• Decide what size the book should be.
• Decide how to format the pages and text.

Layout

• Assemble the text and illustrations.
• Decide on and create the front and back matter .
• Decide how to bind the book.
• If the book will be center-bound, determine how to arrange the pages.

Production

• Print the book.
• Collate the book.
• Bind the book.
• Trim the pages.
