Training people to administer literacy materials tests

Introduction

The way a test is administered is as important to testing results as the test itself. You must adequately train anyone who administers tests. The importance of this training cannot be overemphasized.

Things to do
Here are the things to do when you train people to administer literacy materials tests:

  • Make certain trainees understand the purpose of the test and what kind of information to test for.
  • Teach trainees by modeling exactly what you want them to do. Do not rely solely on written or oral instruction.
  • Teach trainees how to keep records of each testing situation.
  • Have trainees observe as you administer a test.
  • Observe trainees as they administer a test in a controlled situation.
  • If possible, observe each trainee's first testing experience and provide an opportunity for feedback from the trainee and from the trainer.
