Purpose of writers workshop is to produce writers who

 
  • have a vision for ushering their communities into the world of books
  • believe in themselves and want to communicate
  • can spell, punctuate, type, use a silk-screen press for printing books, know where and how to get the supplies needed for printing, and
  • enjoy their own language and can use devices and strategies normal to the language.
 

Gives ideas about how to accomplish the goals, and how linguists can work effectively. Outlines methods and appropriate topics for a discussion class with writers. Emphasizes importance of high expectations on the part of the trainer.
