Lindvall 1980

Reference

Lindvall, Richard. 1980. "Paulo Freire: The man, the ideas, the methods." Notes on Literacy. Interest level: specialist.

Summary

Discusses Paulo Freire's background, ideas, and methods. Observes the ultimate aim of Freire's pedagogy is political or to promote a change in the consciousness of the preliterate adult. Notes that coordinators (teachers) in Freire methodology can become manipulators. Points out that Freire's philosophy is overly idealistic and linguistically restricted(will not work in nonphonemic-syllabic languages).

Evaluation

Clearly illustrates Freire's basic teaching style and the motivation behind his methodology.
