What is a sentence elicitation frame?

A sentence elicitation frame is a syntactic construction that has a blank left in it for eliciting or testing words.

Here are examples of different kinds of sentence elicitation frames:

• A frame for eliciting nouns

  • This is a dog.
  • This is a pig.
  • This is a _______.

• A frame for eliciting adjectives

  • A ball is round.
  • A block is square.
  • A pencil is _______.
