Contest photos highlight the value of literacy (April 2013) The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) recently held a photo and video competition to raise awareness of the life-changing impact of literacy. SIL was among the many organizations that joined in supporting the effort as co-sponsors of the “Reading Changed My Life” contest. GPE has just announced the release of an e-album which showcases the winning entries and a number of other excellent photos submitted for the contest. SIL researchers at joint meetings of ACAL 44 and GURT 2013 (March 2013) The 44th Annual Conference on African Linguistics (ACAL) is being held jointly with this year’s Georgetown University Round Table on Languages and Linguistics (GURT). The theme of the combined gathering is “African Languages: Specifics and Universals.” Meetings and workshops are taking place 7-10 March on Georgetown’s campus in Washington, DC. Celebrating 60 years of partnership in the Philippines (February 2013) This year marks the 60th anniversary of SIL’s entry into partnership with the government of the Philippines to work together for the country's language communities. With more than 170 distinct ethnolinguistic communities, the island nation is a colorful mosaic of languages and cultures.
