Description:
This is a transition primer (literacy instructional book) for educated/literate Lugwere speakers written only in Lugwere but transitioning from English. The philosophy behind this primer is to not have the learners be contstantly code-switching, so all instrucion is in the MT. Its construction is based on the four basic elements of learning: top-down reading, top-down writing, bottom-up reading and bottom-up writing (spelling), plus comprehension. There are 20 lessons in the book, each of which take about 1 hour to learn. This book is meant to be taught in a group setting (as opposed to a self-teaching primer). The teacher's guide is written by Robin Rempel and delineated in A Transition Primer Manual. Thousands of Gwere people have become fluent in reading their language by going through the transitional literacy program that is based on the foundation of this primer.
