Abstract:
Fundamental to the dissemination of language resources by archives is the metadata that describes those resources. Without adequate metadata, potential users of language resources will never discover that they exist or learn that they are relevant to their purposes. It is important that the capture of metadata occur as close as possible to the submission of the resource to ensure that vital information is collected. When data gathering occurs in remote field locations, there may be a lengthy interval before the ultimate organization of material for submission to an archive. This paper describes a solution which bridges this gap by the use of an offline metadata entry tool.
