Abstract:
This study seeks to identify those factors that build capacity in community-based language development projects, and ensure sustainability in indigenous organizations that carry them out. One of the main obstacles in Pakistan, as pointed out by many of its own educators, researchers and practitioners, is that much of the formal educational system does not build an adequate foundation on which effective leadership, vision, field research and documentation competencies can be easily and successfully developed. For this reason, an innovative training program is needed first to lay this foundation and then to nurture the confidence and specific competence needed to ensure that community-based language development projects and the indigenous organizations supporting them have the capacity they need to achieve both short- and long-term objectives.
