In this book, botanist Richard Rutter documents aspects of the culture of the Pajonal Ashéninka as it pertains to their use of the plant resources of the Gran Pajonal and adjoining areas in the high rain forest of central Peru. The first section introduces the peopleː their culture, history, and environment. In the second section, more than 350 plants, their uses, common Ashéninka names, English and Spanish names, families and genera are described. Traditional beliefs about each plant are given where known. Color photos of many plants are included.
