Description:
This word list was created by Phil King in September 2000, based on data collection throughout 2000 at Yamai village, and discussions with Kelly Gain while participating at the STEP course at SIL in Ukarumpa. The spelling suggestions are based on groups of rhyming words as classified by Kuneng Kautil, Yann Kubai and Kelly Gain. The word list and spelling guide show recommended ways to spell words that are primarily distinguished by tonal contrasts, giving them in two columns. The difference in pronunciation between the two columns is usually related to pitch rather than length or tone quality. The words written with a double vowel (e.g. uu) have a high flat tone, whereas those with a single vowel (e.g. u) have a falling tone.
