Abstract:

This report summarizes the findings of a linguistic and sociolinguistic survey along the Kumbe River in Irian Jaya, Indonesia. The findings indicate that all villages surveyed are of the Marind language, but that further research would help to establish intelligibility among speech varieties in different locations as a precursor to one or more language development programs.
