Abstract: 
This chapter describes the contexts in the Philippines in which mother tongue-based multilingual education contributes to improved learning outcomes for learners from minority ethnolinguistic communities. The paper reflects on the contribution of education to language maintenance. The chapter gives examples of literacy and education programme implementation from a number of communities in the Philippines.
