From the introduction, "The purpose of this paper is to present evidence for the correspondence between the tones of two Thai languages, White Thai and Tho, by means of a comparison of cognates; and to show how such a comparison can help to resolve the interpretation of tones in two languages, when there is insufficient or no internal evidence on which to base tonemic analysis."
