English, abstract only
This study is primarily concerned with the phonology of the Nateni language, spoken in the north of Benin in West Africa. It has been the basis for further work in the language and has especially contributed to its orthography design. The description was conducted in terms of segmental phonology and does not include a study of the tone system of the language. Sections 2.2.1.2 (Le phonème /b/) and 2.2.1.4 (Le phonème /d/) point out that this language doesn’t have nasal continuants as phonemes. The syllabic nasal is discussed under section 4.6 (N : /V/, /C/ ou /CV/ ?). Suspect consonants are examined in 4.8. An interesting analysis follows in 4.8.2 (Les palatales [c / ɟ / ɲ]) as well as a discussion related to the issue of the non-existence of nasal phonemes (in 4.8.3).
