Doulos SIL Cipher

The Doulos SIL Cipher font is being developed to represent Cipher music notation, used throughout Indonesia and China for all kinds of music. Because the font is still being developed, it is expected that the final release will be significantly different from the current download. The font is not intended for general orthographic use, although it is usable for song lyrics in simple Roman writing systems. This solution is primarily intended for fairly straightforward songbooks for singers, not for complex instrumental music. It can handle harmony lines well, but not a lot of intricacies or subtleties (e.g. no staccato).

The main requirements for this font were to support Indonesian Cipher Music Notation (Kepatihan). However, where it was straightforward to add support for the Chinese jianpu style, we have done so.

Doulos SIL Cipher has been tested on Windows 7 to work with WorldPad, LibreOffice 3.4.4+, and OpenOffice 3.2+. The font has minimal OpenType support, but there is no support for slurs. The font also has Graphite capabilities, which any Graphite-enabled application will be able to use.

Doulos SIL Cipher is freely available and may be used by anyone at no cost. It is released under the SIL Open Font License, a free and open source license that permits modification and redistribution.
