Global efforts for cooperation in sign language development (March 2010) Deaf History Month is observed annually in the USA from 13 March to 15 April to celebrate milestone events in Deaf history, to recognize leaders and to learn about events important to Deaf communities. WOCAL 6—SIL presents 18 papers on African linguistics (August 2009) Eighteen SIL linguists presented papers 17–21 August at the 6th World Congress of African Linguistics (WOCAL) in Cologne, Germany. The theme of WOCAL 6 was "African Linguistics for Understanding and Progress." One SIL linguist addressed the special forum on African sign languages. SIL recognizes Deaf History Month 2009 (April 2009) Deaf History Month is celebrated annually in the USA from 13 March to 15 April. SIL has several ongoing projects to serve Deaf communities, including language surveys to distinguish between various signed languages. During Deaf History Month and the weeks leading up to it, SIL held a workshop in Colorado, a consultation in the United Kingdom and a consultant training session in Kenya.
