International Linguistics Center

The International Linguistics Center houses the international headquarters of SIL International. It is also the campus for the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics (GIAL).

The SIL linguistics training and expertise is focused on less-studied languages and people groups throughout the world. Evolving from the linguistics program, the Summer Institute has become the largest non-governmental literacy training provider in the world. There are also substantial community development and medical programs related to SIL's work and a substantial core of anthropologists and ethnomusicologists.

The library on the campus is unique and substantial in the field of linguistics and anthropology. It contains those theses that have been written in conjunction with the UTA Linguistics Program. It also contains those thousands of publications which have resulted from SIL's field work.

In partial response to the fulfillment of SIL's responsibility to make known to the general public the life ways of some of these groups, the International Museum of Cultures has been established. The Museum has also become a significant tool to sensitize folk, children and adults as well, to other cultures. From kindergartners to professionals, the response to the collection and the displays has been one of awe and appreciation.
