Author: Edward Brye
Title: Language Survey of Gemzek and Gaduwa
Abstract:
This report describes sociolinguistic research of Gemzek and Gaduwa, both found in the Mayo-Tsanaga Division of the Far North Province of Cameroon in February 2000. The primary interest was to gain a preliminary measurement of Gemzek speakers' understanding of a text of spoken Zulgo and, in conjunction with this, to determine whether Gaduwa was a distinct speech variety or, whether it was "a village of Gemzek." A goal of both surveys was to explore the value of carrying out a language development project in the groups being researched.
