Austronesian linguistics papers at 11•ICAL (June 2009) The Eleventh International Conference on Austronesian Linguistics(ICAL) is being held 22–26 June in Aussois, France. SIL personnel are presenting seven papers and chairing two sessions. One of the presenters, SIL International Academic Services Director J. Ethnologue released in new edition (May 2009) SIL announces publication of the 16th edition of Ethnologue: Languages of the World. The most comprehensive reference volume of its kind, this resource serves as a catalogue of the world’s 6,909 known living languages. This new edition includes updated and expanded language descriptions, 208 pages of updated and redesigned color maps, updated statistical summary tables and an expanded bibliography. Nepal language survey begins (April 2009) A pilot language survey in Nepal is the initial step for a comprehensive linguistic survey of Nepal, which will be conducted by Tribhuvan University’s Central Department of Linguistics (CDL). The survey was inaugurated on 6 March at the university in Kathmandu, Nepal. Training for language surveyors began on 23 March. The role of SIL in the partnership with CDL is to provide technical input and training for linguistic surveyors and to assist with planning and management functions. Payap University and SIL mark 20 years at opening of Linguistics Institute building (March 2009) Payap University in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and SIL are celebrating the opening of a new building to house their Linguistics Institute.
