Training for Roles in Language Work
Linguist-Translator
For those planning to work in the SIL organization, many fields advise taking the basic courses before beginning a language assignment. The remaining courses can be taken on the field or immediately after the first field term.
Before being cleared to begin full-scale translation, all SIL personnel who will be involved in Bible translation are required to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the following three areas:
- basic knowledge of at least one biblical language
- ability to exegete the biblical text accurately
- knowledge of the historical and cultural background of the Bible
