SIL Executive Director thanks Translation Panel for their Report On behalf of SIL International, I express my deep appreciation to the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), Dr Robert Cooley and the rest of the members of the WEA-facilitated review panel for their diligent and careful review of our translation policies and practices regarding terms that refer to ‘God the Father’ and the ‘Son of God.’ As part of the global Church, and representing a breadth of experience and academic expertise, the panel has served SIL well through their recommendations that will help us to refine our Scripture translation practices. Celebrating 60 years of partnership in the Philippines (February 2013) This year marks the 60th anniversary of SIL’s entry into partnership with the government of the Philippines to work together for the country's language communities. With more than 170 distinct ethnolinguistic communities, the island nation is a colorful mosaic of languages and cultures. Language cluster project research in PNG (October 2012) SIL Papua New Guinea (PNG) recently hosted a five-day workshop for those working in multi-language programs. Twenty-four project managers and advisors from four regional organizations of PNG and the Solomon Islands met to share about their experiences of working with multiple language communities at the same time. SIL partner marks fiftieth anniversary with development conference (May 2012) “Language and Culture in National Development” was the theme of a conference that recently took place in the West African nation of Ghana. The gathering was jointly sponsored by the University of Ghana’s Institute of African Studies and the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT). This was one of several events planned for 2012, the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of both institutions and of their collaboration for language development in local communities.
