Fifty years of language development in Africa

(March 2012) This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of SIL’s service in language development in Africa. Since the first cooperative agreement with the University of Ghana, SIL has been invited to partner with government agencies, educational institutions and local communities across the continent. SIL is a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to serving language communities worldwide as they build capacity for sustainable language development, primarily through research, translation, training and materials development.

SIL announces additional dialogue with partners on translation practice (English, Español, Português)

(6 February 2012) In light of a number of questions raised about our Best Practices Statement on the translation of Divine Familial Terms, we recognize it is important to have a fuller dialogue with our many partners globally and benefit from their input to our approach in Scripture translation related to this issue.

SIL responds to false accusations (English, Español, Português)

Is it true that SIL supports removing “Son of God” and “God the Father” in Scripture translations? No.

(January 2012) In response to various recent public accusations, SIL restates emphatically: SIL does not support the removal of the divine familial terms, “Son of God” or “God the Father” but rather requires that Scripture translation must communicate clear understanding of these terms.

SIL International® Publications announces two new monthly e-newsletters

(November 2011) SIL International Publications offers over 200 titles covering a variety of topics related to language and culture. As SIL staff serve around the world, they partner with communities in language development efforts—such as literacy and multilingual education—and conduct linguistic and cultural research. One of the ways SIL shares the results of this research and experience is through SIL International Publications.
