SIL recognizes World AIDS Day (December 2009) The theme of this year's World AIDS Day is Universal Access and Human Rights. People in ethnolinguistic communities are especially vulnerable to HIV/AIDS due in part to the lack of essential information in the mother tongue. SIL Senegal celebrates 25 years of language development (May 2009) At the invitation of the Senegalese government, SIL has served the peoples of Senegal through language development for 25 years. Programa completo de lingüística, dictado en castellano en el Perú, termina con éxito su quinto año (Diciembre del 2007) Los alumnos que terminan el Curso Internacional de Lingüística, Traducción y Alfabetización(CILTA) del año lectivo 2007 se gradúan en diciembre. Éste ha sido el quinto curso ofrecido en la Universidad Ricardo Palma en Lima, Perú. SIL translates HIV/AIDS booklets and DVD in Papua New Guinea (December 2007) A DVD drama, Kisim AIDS—Kisim Taim (Get AIDS—Get Trouble), dramatizes how HIV/AIDS affects the whole family when one member contracts the disease. Produced and performed in Melanesian Pidgin by SIL workers in Papua New Guinea (PNG), the DVD provides practical HIV/AIDS education. SIL Peru celebrates 60 years of service (September 2006) On September 21 SIL will celebrate 60 years of working alongside Peruvians in their efforts of language development for the ethnic minority languages of Peru. The celebration will be held in Magdalena del Mar, Lima. Representatives from the Peruvian government, nongovernmental organizations and educational institutions are expected to attend the event.
